So You Want To Be Married
Congratulations on your engagement. Northminster United Church welcomes the opportunity of sharing with you in making your wedding plans. Marriage is a very important and sacred occasion in your life. You are reminded that your wedding service, whether in the Church or at another venue, is a service of worship.
All that is done or said, played or sung; should be an offering to God, and in keeping with the Christian faith.
Minister:
To book your wedding with Northminster United Church call the church secretary to confirm that your desired date is available. Then book an appointment with the minister, the Rev. Sandra Farrow to go over requirements, to complete the form and make the deposit for the church.
If you wish, for personal reasons for another minister to assist in your service, this must be done in consultation at your first interview. Then the Rev. Sandra Farrow will extend an invitation to him or to her to assist. Rev. Farrow will also
assign the places another minister will assist in the service.
Director of Music
Music is not necessary at a wedding, but most couples feel that it adds much to the beauty of the ceremony. This music is not an entertainment for the guests but is to set the atmosphere for worship. In this light, such music as accompanies the service should be to the glory of God. The Director of Music will give counsel on choices of music for all the marriage services held in the church as well as soloists or other special music. Our Director of Music, Ashton McMaster, must be contracted to review and decide on your wedding choices prior to your interview with the Minister and Wedding Co-ordinator a month prior to your wedding day.
Wedding Co-ordinators
Marriage Co-ordinators, Donna Gosselin or Janet Slocombe, will be in attendance at all weddings. During the rehearsel and wedding, the Co-ordinator will arrange the bridal party,
and make such other arrangements as to insure a smooth flow in the service. She also ensures the sanctuary is properly prepared and arranged for the wedding, and clean and tidy afterwards. Questions concerning church decorations should be directed to her.
Marriage Preparation
Marriage Preparation is Mandatory at Northminister United Church. It is held on the last weekend of April and the last weekend of September each year.
During the Friday evening (7-9 p.m.) the Wedding Service will be discussed. You will meet your Wedding Co-ordinator, the Director of Music and the Minister at that time. A booklet will be handed out from which you will make choices for your wedding service to be returned at an interview in the month prior to your wedding. On Saturday (9a.m.-3p.m.) you will engage in various aspects of marriage. If you do not attend these sessions an additional $100 per session will be charged to the couple for each session done privately.
