Northminster In Action:

Mission and Service Fund — 2011

In 2011 our congregation has given $31,829.50, including $4500 from the UCW, to the United Church of Canada Mission and Service Fund. This represents 91% of our goal of $35,000. On behalf of those who receive support from this fund in Canada and around the world, thank you very much!

St. Vincent's Kitchen — December 31, 2011

Thank you to the volunteers who helped prepare and serve dinner at St. Vincent's Kitchen this New Year's Eve day. Northminster serves dinner when there is a fifth Saturday in a month. Our dates for 2012 are March 31, June 30, Sept. 29 and Dec. 29. Students and new volunteers are welcome to serve with us anytime! For more information, please contact Ruth Holtz.

White Gift Sunday — December 4, 2011

The groups and individuals of Northminster again showed their commitment to local support agencies as they donated canned food, other needed items and financial support. Many thanks also to our Sunday school children for their skit and white gift donations.

Canadian Foodgrains Project — 2011
A Christian Response to Hunger

Picture of corn fields being harvested in Belgrave, Ontario.

Our church has partnered with Knox United Church in Belgrave, Ontario for a fifth consecutive year, to grow and sell a crop of corn. Our project is part of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank effort to end hunger in developing nations. This spring Northminster collected $3414.50 for the project. Approximately twenty-five acres of corn were planted and then successfully harvested this fall in Belgrave.

Thanks to the generous donations from the members of Northminster and Knox United Churches, as well as donations of labour and materials from local farmers and farm suppliers, the sale of corn will yield a significant donation to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. This amount will be matched 4:1 by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). We will post the total amount raised for world relief in this space when it is available.

For more information, please contact Sandra McEwan, Outreach Committee.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Since this ministry began in 2005, more than 270 prayer shawls have been dedicated and presented.

Volunteers are always welcome to knit or crochet shawls. Please contact Fran Fallis, coordinator, if you would like materials and patterns. Completed shawls can be returned to the church office. If you know someone who would appreciate a prayer shawl, please contact the ministers or secretary.
